Osteoarthritis (OA) and type 2 diabetes are both chronic diseases
associated with a high prevalence of end-organ failure, as well as with
age and obesity. Although metabolic factors are important for the
development of OA, it is still unclear whether type 2 diabetes is a
causal risk factor for OA. However, metabolic syndrome is significantly
more common among patients with OA compared with those without OA, and
the association between obesity and OA extends beyond weight-bearing
joints, suggesting the importance of metabolic as well as mechanical
factors. The objective of this study was to determine whether type 2
diabetes is an independent risk predictor for severe OA http://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/772837?src=cmemp |
