Population-Based Study Links Migraine and Restless Legs

posted Oct 2, 2012, 12:19 AM by Admin Osteoinfo

The underlying pathophysiologic basis for migraine may be similar to that of several other disorders or conditions, particularly restless legs syndrome (RLS), which is a common movement disorder predominantly affecting women. Both conditions may involve a disturbance of iron and dopamine metabolism. Findings from a few clinic-based studies suggest an association between migraine and RLS. However, there were previously no population-based data to support or refute this association. The objective of this study by Schürks and colleagues was to examine the association between migraine and its subtypes with RLS in a large, population-based cohort of women. http://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/760373?src=cmemp
